High Performance FAQs

What is the ERVA High Performance Program?
The ERVA High Performance Program seeks to identify, train, and provide competitive opportunities to the top players in our region. The program is a three-step process: an initial HP tryout, if selected, a three-day camp, which will be held at area schools announced at time of camp date announcement/posting. Players at the camp will be training with a collection of the best players from the Evergreen Region and competing for spots on the travel team (s) who will represent the Evergreen Region at the High Performance Championship Tournament in July.

Why should my daughter participate in the program?
Your daughter will most likely attend volleyball camps this summer. The HP camp is another option and opportunity for her to improve her skills and continue participating in the sport she loves.  This camp simulates the training players will receive at National High Performance Training Camps and USA National Team Training Camps.

What makes this camp different from the many others offered during the summer?
Unlike other camps, our objective is not on making a profit (we are partially subsidized by the region) and this allows us to tailor our program to suit your needs. The maximum number of players per court will be 10!! The coach to player ratio will be, at a minimum,1:3/4!! All this adds up to a LOT of individual attention for each player.  The training the players receive will be in the same format the USA National Team uses for its training session.  This style of training and the intensity of the competition for travel team spots is designed to bring the athletes game to the next level. We train all players in all the skills as VOLLEYBALL players, with some specializing in the older groups.

When are the HP Training Camp and HP Championships?
The HP Training Camps will be held at May 17,18, 19, 2019 in Spokane, WA.

The players team selected from the training camp will compete in the HP Championship event held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on July 18-22, 2019.

What other benefits are there to training at the regional HP camp?
Because the camps are through invitation only, based on results of the tryouts, your daughter will be training with similar skilled and motivated athletes, providing the optimal experience for learning and improving.

Do we have to be able to participate in competition to be a part of the camp?
Although we prefer that campers also can play in any competition scheduled, this factor will be one of several determinants in the selection of camp attendees.

Is my daughter good enough to make the HP camp?
Many families and players have missed out on this opportunity because of such doubts. With the numerous summer options that exist, and with some players in the region involved with the national HP program, the opportunity to be selected for our camp is much higher than most people think.

What are the costs associated with the program?
The cost for the tryout is $40, while the cost for the Select and Youth Camps is $450 for 3 day camp.  The camp fee includes 2 or 3 days/6-9 sessions of training, , snacks and drinks, classroom materials, as well as t-shirts for each training day. For players that are selected for the travel teams, there will be an additional travel fee. Travel fees for HP Championships include EVERYTHING=  food, entry fee, coaches, chaperone fee, hotels, transportation, gift exchange, snacks, etc...

Why are the age divisions different than USAV?
The HP program follows the international age divisions that are mandated by the world governing body, the FIVB, they are in two-year brackets and in every even year they advance by two years.

My daughter was selected for a National HP camp and the dates conflict with the Regional camp. Which one should she go to?

USAV wants athletes to be able to compete against top talent in the country. Depending on what program an athlete is invited to at the National level will depend if the athlete should play for the Region or USA. Below are USAV's recommendations that can help athletes' families make this decision:

-If you are invited to a Regional HP program and a National HP A1 program, we recommend that you attend the A1 program. A1 National Programs put you among the very top volleyball players in the country in your age group and at the top of the USAV HP Athlete Pipeline.

-If you are invited to a Regional HP program and a National HP A2 Invitational, we recommend that you attend the Regional HP program. Strive to participate in both the Region and A2 programs, schedule and finances permitting, as you are welcome and encouraged to attend the USAV National HP Camp at the level for which you qualified in addition to the Region program. Please see our USAV HP Programs page for more information about National HP Programs.

-If you are invited to a Regional HP program and a National HP A3, Training, or Skills Program, we recommend that you attend the Regional HP program. You are also welcome and encouraged to attend the USAV HP Program at the level for which you qualified. Please see our USAV HP Programs page for more information about National HP Programs.

**If you are listed as an alternate for a program that will conflict with your Regional program invitation, please notify your Region immediately that you have been selected as an alternate for a National program (particularly at the A1 level). As team selections are typically made in the same time frame, deadlines to accept Regional and National invitations sometimes conflict. Please note that it often takes 3-4 weeks for a USAV HP National program to fill and alternates are contacted throughout that time. In most cases, your Region will be willing to compromise on a deadline that will allow alternates time to see if you are invited up to a National program from the waitlist.

Who do I contact if I have any more questions?
If you have any other questions concerning the program, please contact the Region Office: office@evergreenrgion.org
