"I have had the honor and privilege of being part of the USA Volleyball High Performance program for the last six years. This last week I attended the High Performance Coach's Clinic at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. This year's theme was Transition-sessions included technical topics such as transitioning for the middle blocker, transition offense, and serve receive, in addition to how the US National Sitting team transitioned from finishing second to China over the last four years and finally beat them for the gold in the Olympics to how the U.S. Women's National Team (with such high expectations of winning gold) only came home with bronze and now much refocus on the next Olympics. There were also sessions on supplements, recovery, weight training for youths and introduction of the HP coach's mentoring program.
The clinic always works hard to bring in top quality presenters, and this year was no exception. The list includes Karch Kiraly (Women's National Team Head Coach), Matt Fuerbinger (Men's National Team Asst Coach), Bill Hamiter (Women's National Sitting Team Head Coach), Keegan Cook (University of Washington Women's Head Coach), Beth Launiere (University of Utah Women's Head Coach), Jerritt Elliot (University of Texas Women's Head Coach), and Shelton Collier (Wingate University Women's Head Coach). The clinic left me thinking about how I transition from last club season to this club season and where I need to improve to be a better Coach and Club Director. If you ever get a chance to attend the HP Coach's Clinic I suggest that you take it! There is so much valuable information to be gained there!"
